Johannes K. Hildebrandt


Johannes K. Hildebrandt was born in 1968 in Quedlinburg, Germany and grew up in Zeitz. He studied in Weimar (composition, music theory, piano) and completed his postgraduate studies with a graduate recital in 1998. He is a member of the federal board of the German composers association, Deutscher Komponistenverband since 2007. He has also been artistic director of the festival Weimarer Frühjahrstage. He is a teamer in various “Response-projects” and founded the Youthensemble for contemporary music in Thuringia. Hildebrandt has received several sponsorships from the arts council in Thuringia, is laureate of various composers’ competitions and has had performances with numerous Artists in the world, Jenaer Philharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, Loh-Orchester Sondershausen, Orchester des Staatstheaters Brandenburg, Staatsphilharmonie Timisoara, Arditti Quartet, Ensemble FLAME, Ensemble Good Mori, Aeolian Trio, Ensemble Suono Giallo, KNM-Berlin, oh-ton-Ensemble, Ensemble via nova, Uroboros Ensemble, Ensemble Insomnio, Maulwerker, Ensemble Black Pencil, Art Ensemble NRW, Ensemble Mosaik, Ensemble Quillo, Ensemble Profil, Ensemble Junge Musik Berlin, Lux:NM, Bärmann Trio, Duo Mos, Carin Levine, Lydia Kavina, Maria Löschner, Magdalena Kaltcheva, Klemen Leben, Moritz Ernst, Landesjugendensemble für Neue Musik Thüringen, Ensemble der Länder etc. He has written more than 180 compositions including orchestral works, chamber music, choral music and film music. Hildebrandt currently lives in Weimar, working as a freelance composer.
