Piotr A. Komorowski
Piotr A. KOMOROWSKI is a composer, Festival Director, and Organizer of musical life. He serves as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Music Education of the Kazimierz Wielki University (UKW) in Bydgoszcz. Born on October 14, 1977, in Łęczyca, he began his musical education at the State Music School in Kutno (1989–1997). Between 1997 and 2002, he studied Music Theory at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, continuing there in the composition class of Prof. Marek Jasiński, graduating in 2005. In 2010, he earned his doctoral degree in composition from the Academy of Music in Kraków with a dissertation on Computer-Aided Composition (CAC) in his symphonic work Rozbłyski .
He participated in Jazz Music Workshops in Puławy (1992, 1993) and the “Identity of Sound” workshops led by Serbian composer Miroslav ‘Miša’ Savić during the BELEF’07 Festival in Belgrade, which resulted in the collaborative electronic piece Harmonia Mundi.
In 2016, he was awarded the “Merit for Polish Culture” honorary badge by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. In 2010, the Polish Society for Contemporary Music recommended his work Rozbłyski for the World Music Days “Zagreb 2011”. He is a laureate of the Youth Circle of the Polish Composers’ Union (ZKP) competition (2007) and the 5th Inter-University Fugue Competition in Bydgoszcz (2000). He was also a recipient of the Scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2001).
Since 2003, he has been a faculty member at the Faculty of Music Education at UKW in Bydgoszcz, and also teaches at the Karol Kurpiński State Music School in Kutno. Since May 2011, he has served as the President of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Branch of the Polish Composers’ Union. He is the Director and co-founder of the NOWA MUZYKA International Contemporary Music Festival, held in Bydgoszcz since 2013.
His works have been performed by renowned ensembles, including the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra, Gorzów Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot, Accordion Chamber Orchestra, and the OPIUM Quartet. He has collaborated with conductors such as Monika Wolińska, Wojciech Rodek, and Rodrigo Tomillo, and soloists including Tomasz Strahl, Piotr Sutt, and Lech Bałaban. His music has been featured at major festivals including “Warsaw Autumn” (Youth Circle ZKP concert, 2007) and BELEF’07 in Belgrade.
His current creative focus is on Computer-Aided Composition (CAC). He is also an active translator of free software, having localized programs such as GNU Solfege, MuseScore, and Frescobaldi into Polish.
