Tianwei Zhu
Tianwei Zhu is a composer whose work explores the intersections of sound, space, and perception. His compositions span orchestral, chamber, electronic, and interactive sound installations, characterized by a sensitivity to timbre, texture, and immersive listening experiences. Zhu’s music investigates subtle processes of transformation, emphasizing the tension between movement and stillness, presence and absence.
His recent projects include the orchestral work Verborgene Strömung, the interactive sound installation Trauerflug for the Dessau Zoo, and a soundscape for Mathias Buss’s painting Im Dunkeln der Nacht. He has also participated as composer and performer in music-theatre projects such as Spiel, contributing piano improvisations and performances within ensembles. Other notable works include Die Berge unter dem Mondschein and Komposition I, composed for film and orchestral performance.
Zhu’s artistic practice engages deeply with the physical and perceptual dimensions of sound, exploring spatialization, sonic detail, and temporal structures.
