ensemble via nova

Ensemble via nova blazes new trails, venturing off the beaten path in search of the unexpected. Turning courageously toward the future, they shake the foundations of Weimar’s classical musical traditions. This quintet of instrumentalists performs contemporary chamber music without a conductor, collaborating closely with young composers to build their own distinct sound.

Combining passion with intellectual curiosity, they focus on world premieres and exploring new possibilities for communication within chamber music. Key components of their regular concert series at the Erfurt Kunsthalle include sound spatialization, improvisation, and scenic elements. New compositions and concert programs developed in Thuringia are subsequently presented on stages worldwide.

They have been playing together since 2016: Nikita Geller (violin), Daniel Gutiérrez (cello), Marianna Schürmann (flute), Moritz Schneidewendt (clarinet), and Neža Torkar (accordion). Over the years, their reputation as an outstanding chamber formation has reached far beyond Germany. They are regular guests at renowned venues and festivals, from Seoul and Daegu in South Korea to London’s Ear Festival, Barcelona’s Mixtur Festival, as well as events in Gdańsk, Italy, and Switzerland.

Crucial to their work are relationships with fellow artists, allowing them to collectively expand their artistic horizons. This has resulted in their own concert series such as Reflexionen and CO|:N:|ECT, produced in collaboration with Ensemble Mosaik, Lux:NM, Black Pencil, Neo Quartett, and the dance group Pluto’s Tide Tanzprojekt.
